The Chevrolet Bel Air name first appeared in 1950 and came to denote premium versions in the mid-fifties, with lavish trim and heavy chrome-work. It was the second generation for the 3 model years 1955 to 1957 that are regarded as most iconic, referred to as ‘Tri-Chevy’ or ‘TriFive’
They were available as 2- and 4-door sedan, Convertible, Estate and Coupe. Pictured here is a 1955 Bel Air Coupe, notable for pillarless side windows and enhanced by additional trim on the front bumper.
Highlighting the occasional perils of my art, when I was progressing this painting, I thought it looked too green, so I over-compensated the blue. However, my original colour turned out more correct, and too late to change it. I therefore ended up doing a fresh painting, but chose to have it facing the other way.
