The Rover P6 was announced in 1963 as the Rover 2000, along with the Triumph 2000 exploiting a gap in the UK market for executive cars. The 3500 was launched in 1968, using the Buick-derived light-alloy V8 engine, and quickly become popular. 3500s are visually distinguished by the additional grille below the front bumper.
The car portrayed is one of the first P6Bs with the earlier style of grille.
It was the Rover P6 that indirectly set me on my journey into motoring art, as I drew one for my best friend back in the 90s. I did several others, one of which was a P6B in ink, and had put the image put onto a T-Shirt for him to wear at car shows whilst he owned the car.
