Mercedes-Benz SL Pagoda

The ‘W113’ SL was introduced in 1963, succeeding the 190 SL shown elsewhere in my gallery. The styling of the optional hardtop shown here lead to the enduring nickname 'Pagoda' by which these cars have always been known.

There were 3 successive engine options during the model's life, starting as 230SL, replaced by the 250SL in 1967, and succeeded by the 280SL the next year continuing until production ceased in 1971.

Pagodas have a substantial following nowadays, which has seen a significant increase in their prices.

Portrayed is a 230SL, visually distinguished by separate centre hub caps and rim embellishers, which I prefer over the later full wheel-covers.
