The Rover P5 was introduced in 1958, initially powered by a straight-six 3-litre engine. A Mark II version followed in 1962, when the Coupe (pictured here) with a lowered roofline was announced. From 1967 onwards, the P5B (B stood for Buick) used a Buick-derived 3.5 litre V8 engine, boosting both economy and performance. Visually these had a revised chrome waist strip and chrome Rostyle wheels.
The car portrayed is a well-known from car shows in the south-east, and I have faithfully reproduced all the badges that make it unique.
The car now benefits (in my opinion) from whitewall tyres, but I had to modify the painting at a very late stage, as they had not been fitted when I took the reference photos!
My early childhood memories are of a P5 saloon version we had for some time as our family car, at a time when I young enough to be able to stand on the transmission tunnel to look over the front seats!
