The Jaguar XJ-S was introduced in September 1975, and remained in production for over 20 years until June 1996, the longest production run of any Jaguar, with a total of over 115,000 built in that time. The XJ-S was a successor, rather than direct replacement, to the iconic E-Type that preceded it.
A facelift in 1991 saw various modifications, most noticeably revised glazing with no quarter-lights and enlarged rear side windows. Facelifted cars were badged as XJS (losing the earlier hyphen).
