Aston Martin DBS

The DBS was designed by William Towns, and intended as a replacement for the DB6, although production overlapped for several years. It was initially powered by the same 4.0 litre 6-cylinder 282 bhp engine as the DB6, until a new V8 became available.

The DBS was fast for a 1960s full four-seater, with a maximum speed of 141mph, and 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds.

The DBS was larger than earlier DBs, providing occupants greater interior space and comfort together with improved handling over the DB6.

Pictured is a 1970 example finished in its original colour scheme of Azzuro Blue Metallic with Dark Blue hide, which at the time I photographed it had received a full engine rebuild and recent re-paint, as well as included 4 new wheels and tyres, fresh brakes and suspension.

A DBS was used in the 1969 the Bond film ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ and more exposure came with 1971-2 TV show ‘The Persuaders’ (I love the theme tune!) with Roger Moore as Lord Brett Sinclair driving a yellow DBS alongside Tony Curtis as Danny Wild in a Ferrari Dino.
